"Hyper Local" features the work of two Vancouver photographers, Dylan Surridge and Mike Wilson. The show focuses on East Vancouver landmarks that demonstrate the interactions between people, cities, time and technology. Wilson's intimate portraits will be contrasted by Surridge's mosaic panoramic photos.

With “Hyper Local” the photographers show two perspectives on the same locations. The difference between the photos is the passage of time and the techniques used to process the images. These images reveal the lived experience of a place, the community and what it means to live in a changing neighbourhood.

Mike Wilson works in black and white using natural light. He photographs his surroundings focusing on people, but occasionally, landscapes or cityscapes. He photographs things and people as they are without changing them. The style of portraiture is intimate, close to the subject, trusting. Wilson prints using fibre base paper toned with selenium for greater depth by enhancing the blacks and life of the print.

Dylan Surridge’s photos are crafted by first shooting a full 360-degree panorama from multiple shots, and stitched to make a single image. The photos are then manipulated using similar techniques to map making to create a truly unique perspective.
